Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8 Review: Ambo

Wow. J. You just blew my mind.

It was a long time coming, and I can't say I'm sad, but J stepped up his game on Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8 when he took care of business in the worst way possible.

Goodbye, Mia. It was nice knowing you.

Tall Killer J - Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8

J blowing away Mia was shocking. But, and I'm not ashamed to say this, I cheered when he did.

Did anyone else think he didn't have it in him?

I sure didn't. But he did. At least it appears that he did.

He freaked out afterward, so let's go with it and not the possibility that he spared Mia in some way and tricked Pete.

Family Meeting - Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8

And if he could kill Mia, he won't have any problems killing anyone else who pisses him off or gets in his way.

The strange thing about J, though, is that he's constantly going back and forth about his family.

One minute he hates them all, and the next minute he says they're all he has.

He wasn't feeding Mia a line of bullshit, either. He meant it the same way he did at the end of Animal Kingdom Season 1 when he said it to the cops.

And holy hell. J's got a lot of balls.

Telling Pete about Smurf's condition and that he was going to take over the family when she was gone was quite presumptuous.

But he shouldn't count his chickens before they hatch.

As you all know, things tend to go haywire in the Codys world, and J being head of the family isn't a sure thing yet.

The others weren't too happy when he took over while Smurf was in jail, and I can't imagine they won't feel the same this time around.

If Smurf dies, that is.

She might surprise everyone and stick around for a lot longer than they might think.

Smurf is a smart woman. She was a smart girl, too. And we saw how her manipulative and sneaky streak was present in her early days.

What I loved about the whole Pam situation was that Smurf told Colin about the money.

It seemed that maybe Smurf was going to go along with Pam's idea of working with her, but it didn't pan out that way.

There's still the possibility Smurf might convince Colin to ditch their crew and form a new one with Pam, but I'm not completely convinced of that.

Pope in Uniform - Animal Kingdom

What will be interesting is when and if Smurf tells Colin about her pregnancy.

She still could ditch Colin, but she likes being the only woman in the gang. And she loves the guy.

But what if she brought it up, and he said no. Would she leave anyway?

Maybe he doesn't even know about any kids and that's why Smurf took off on Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 7. She's going to find him, and tell him about Smurf and Julia.

It's speculation, but there are so many possibilities, how can you not?

Thinking about Pie - Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8

She won't be happy to hear the job went haywire when she gets back, but she might be impressed if J tells her what he did to get the money and jewels back.

He's going to have to tell everyone. Otherwise what reason will he give for being able to pay everyone their share?

Deran: You don't want to do that baby-raising shit. You don't get any sleep. You have to feed that thing like 14 times a day.
Craig: Hey, you're right. I remember when I raised you. Look how you turned out.
Deran: Exactly my point.

Pope isn't too happy with J right now, and that might have been a big reason J jumped over the line with Mia.

He knows Pope is dangerous and the only way he would be able to convince Pope he's not the rat would be by eliminating the people who ripped them off.

Little does Pope know that the real rat is probably the girl he's so in love with right now: Angela.

I'm going with Rick on this one. There has to be a reason why she got out of jail early, and her making a deal with law enforcement to bring the Codys down is the logical choice.

At least she didn't ask five million questions this hour, but Pope still needs to open his eyes.

Even though we didn't see Renn, we still felt her presence.

Craig is upset about Renn leaving. He might not have admitted as much to Deran, but he was looking forward to raising a child with her.

Family is everything to him, and having his own family to love and care for is something he wants.

J: We good to go?
Craig: No. Who's going to bake the pie? For after the job if Smurf doesn't make it back in time? It's not about the pie. It means we got the job done and everyone's back safe. It means something.
Pope: I'll stop by Safeway and pick up a pie.

It was apparent not only when he stood by the baby's crib after he got home, but also when he told the guys they needed a pie before doing the job.

It was a poignant moment that showed how much family and tradition means to him.

Craig is All About Family - Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8

Renn needs to open up her eyes and let Craig be a part of her and her baby's life whether he's the father or not.

Over to you!

Are you surprised J killed Mia? Could she still be alive?

Will J tell anyone what he did?

Is young Smurf going to take off with Pam?

Do you agree with Rick that Angela is the rat?
