Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4 Review: Unfinished Business

Enjoy your demon children while you can, they grow up so fast.

Ash took the fight to Ruby on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4 when he received some help from an unexpected visitor, while Kelly continued on in her search for Pablo after his sudden disappearance.

Father & Son - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4

After Ash made chop suey out of his father's reanimated corpse following their skirmish on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 3, I was pleased to find out that it wouldn't be the last time we would see papa Williams.

Ash: Nice try Ruby. You Think I'm stupid? Think I don't know my own father when I see him?
Brock: Poor Ashley. Life just keeps serving up the shit sandwich.

Like everyone else, I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship – or lack thereof – and banter between Ash and Brock during Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2. Unfortunately, that was all brought to a screeching halt due to Brock's untimely death.

I'm thrilled that Lee Majors stuck around, though – at least long enough to give his character a proper send-off.

With the return of Brock's ghost – thanks to Ruby resurrecting his body and disturbing his peace – we were gifted one last hurrah with the Williams boys together. Although Brock helping Ash did push him one step closer to finding Ruby, it also made me realize how much I've missed seeing these two together.

Brock: What's she like?
Ash: Stubborn as shit, and she hates my guts.
Brock: So she's smart. Like her already.

It was exciting to learn what Brock was trying to tell Ash right before being creamed by the possessed Delta on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 3. It has been something that I've always hoped would be revealed at some point, so I'm glad that we revisited that.

Brock never believed in any of that evil mumbo jumbo business that came out of Ash's mouth, so it made sense that when Brock finally realized that Ash was telling the truth, that he would bring up his encounter with the Knights of Samaria. And then there was that little detail about the missing pages from the Necronomicon.

Anybody Home?

It doesn't surprise me that Brock left the poor guy for dead in the cellar, and him sealing up the door so nonchalantly was hysterical.

With the missing pages likely a vital piece to the puzzle in stopping Ruby, Ash was determined to retrieve them.

Brock: Scared, are we?
Ash: I've had a little experience with dead bodies in cellars dad.

Ash getting into a scuffle with the roots was a  fun little nod to the infamous "tree" scene in the original Evil Dead film. Thankfully though,  it didn't go nearly as far.

Does Ruby even know that there are actually missing pages? What those pages contain is anybody's guess, and aside from Ruby, Pablo is the only other person who can decipher them.

Ruby sensed a disturbance in the Force, as Kaya finally made an appearance, and warning of Ruby's fellow Dark Ones being on the verge of escaping their exile.

Since Ruby is the one that banished them, that would definitely spell bad news for her. We don't know much about Kaya other than what Dalton explained on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2, but I wouldn't put it past her to just be using Ruby in order to be set free.

Kelly: You're okay?
Brandy: Okay? Ash just sliced open some guy I thought was my grandfather with a chainsaw. I'm so far from okay I don't even know what okay is.
Kelly: Makes high school seem a lot less awful am I right?

Somehow, I feel Kaya would be ten times worse than Ruby, Baal, or anything else that has been thrown at Ash and the gang.

A prediction I have is that Kaya will be freed by Ruby, Kaya will turn on Ruby, and thus force Ruby and Ash to work together in order to take down their common enemy.

I'm hoping though that the latter doesn't happen, as it's been done before, but things could be leaning in that direction.

If things don't happen to go that route, it's possible that Kaya could be set up as the main antagonist in Season 4.

Pushing The Evil Away - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4

What was most interesting is how Ruby was able to use an incantation from the book in order to ward off the evil long enough to try and pry some information out of Dalton. Although, Dalton was able to use that opportunity to take himself out of the equation before he could be used to Ruby's advantage.

Again, I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see Dalton develop more of a core member of the team. It just feels like lost potential.

Knowing the swinger that Brock was when he was alive, it only made sense that he knew Brandy's counselor – the real Ms. Previtte – and giving Ash a lead on where Ruby's operating out of.

While he didn't find Ruby there, Ash was introduced to her creepy demon child, who is now the size of a 5-year-old. I guess that's what happens when you feed them entire humans.

Kelly and Brandy had their own share of problems to deal with, as Pablo – now in full on Deadite mode – pursued them relentlessly.

But now that Kelly is infected, what's next?

Head On! - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4

I'm not overly concerned about Kelly and Pablo, as we saw moments earlier with Dalton how it is actually possible to ward off the evil that has taken over. The only problem is that Ruby is the one in possession of the book, and it's not like they can just ask her to borrow it.

I'm sure they'll come up with something. Even if it means Kelly cutting off her leg to prevent the infection from spreading, just as Ash himself was once forced to do.

How freaking cool would it be if Kelly wielded a chainsaw or machine gun leg? Did anyone see the movie Grindhouse?

The Writing On The Wall - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 4

All in all, "Unfinished Business" was a solid installment. We learned some crucial info pertaining to the Book of the Dead and got a chance to see Lee Majors back in action!

Having the real Brock back and listening to his banter with Ash were without a doubt the highlights of the episode. I just wish Brock could have stuck around so we could have more time with the Williams boys together.

Over to you, TV Fanatics!

What did you think of "Unfinished Business"? Where you happy that Brock's character received a proper send-off? Do you wish we could have more time with Ash and Brock? Will Brandy and Ash be able to reverse the possession affecting Pablo and Kelly?
