Ted starts his own architecture firm and hires an intern to get things started, but the intern gets too close with members of the gang.
When Barney finds out that Ted made a list of things he thinks the gang is too old to do, Barney attempts to complete the whole list in 24 hours to prove them wrong.
Ted is shocked when he finds out that he was fired from building the new GNB headquarters months ago and that Barney and Marshall went through great lengths to hide it from him.
When Ted's girlfriend, Karen (Laura Prepon), discovers Robin's earring in his bed, Ted finds out it was actually Lily that planted it there and she's been sabotaging his relationships for years.
Ted's old college girlfriend Karen (Laura Prepon) comes back into Ted's life, making Marshall and Lily remember just how much they hated her, something they never told Ted.
The gang meets Barney's wife and kid they never knew existed. Of course, we know it's all just a show for his mother.
Robin is desperate to find a job before she's deported back to Canada and she agrees to let Barney make a video resume for her.
During a three day snow storm, Marshall races to the airport to pick up Lily while she desperately looks for a gift for him from her trip. Meanwhile, Ted and Barney have MacLaren's all to themselves... and a marching band from Arizona.
Marshall learns the downsides of his new job. Lily helps Barney work out some rage issues. There's something going on between Ted and Robin.
When Ted's sister is visiting, he does whatever it takes to keep Barney from meeting her. Marshall, meanwhile, takes a Canadian homesick Robin to a Minnesota themed bar.
The episode is centered around Ted's first fight, which turns out to be a fake one him and Barney orchestrated. Marshall, meanwhile, is mature and sits it out.
When the gang learns about a new moved, the Naked Man, Barney and Ted are determined to use it that night.
Barney's company, Goliath National Bank is looking for an architect to design their new corporate headquarters and he suggests Ted for it. Robin and Lily go out with some of Lily's single friends from work.
Everyone catches baby fever as they pass around a small baby sock.
When the gang is out to dinner, Ted runs into Stella and he makes the group hide under the table. While hiding, each member of the group relates with a story of a person they never want to see again.
In Season 4, Episode 5, Ted and Stella move their wedding date to this weekend, Robin flies in from Japan to attend, and Barney formulates a plan to sleep with Robin again.
Episode 4 of season 4 used Interventions as a theme but the episode was really about the group being ready to move on.
When Stella expects Ted to move into her house, Ted tries to sell the gang on how great New Jersey is.
After Robin ends her cleanse diet, the gang heads off to find the best burger in New York with Regis's help.
Stella says yes to marrying Ted, but Ted soon realizes he barely knows Stella. Barney realizes he's in love with Robin and Lily sets him up on a date with her.
