Life Unexpected Review: "Bong Intercepted"

Like the previous three episodes of Life Unexpected, "Bong Intercepted" had us choking back the tears.

As much as any sappy person loves a good cry over fictional characters, we feel as if the writers need to come up with something bigger than the whole hot and cold mother - daughter scenes.

Yelled At

Catch up on the latest Life Unexpected music now!

How many more times can Lux and Cate fight, break up, and make up? At least Cate is aware of this, making a standing point with Lux. She messes everything up. You can take it or leave it.

Lux's reaction to Cate showing her principal her file was genius. We wondered how the writers would get Cate and Ryan out of their relationship closet.

Speaking of Ryan, we need more of him! The steamy dressing room scene was hot, but not enough. So far, it seems like Cate has more passion with Baze and where concerned what that will mean for Ryan.

That does not mean we are team Ryan - yet. We heart Baze and his boyish ways too. We still feel unsure which guy we want Cate to end up with.

Life Unexpected Cast Reveals Upcoming Storylines, Spoilers

A few weeks into its critically-acclaimed first season, Life Unexpected has solidified a loyal fan base.

As you might expect, these viewers are dying to know: what can they expect over the next few weeks?

Let's find out, courtesy of various Life Unexpected cast members. They spoke to TV Guide and dished on a possible wedding; radio station antics; and a major fight that will find a character on her own...

Kerr Smith, on the season's theme: "Crumble would be the theme of the season, or chaos or stupid madness. It just gets really crazy. Cate's world breaks down, due to her own making."

Shiri Appleby, on her and Baze's secret getting out: "Lux is so angry at Cate that she just outs them. Cate goes through a process where Ryan and Lux get mad at her, and she becomes really humbled because she's left all alone due to the choices she's made in her past... Everything starts falling apart, she's constantly eating junk food, drinking wine and the house is a disaster."

Brittany Robertson, on Lux and her family: "You'll see throughout the episodes that Lux does loosen up on Cate a little bit and realizes that she is trying, does love Lux and wants to be a mother figure. It takes a little bit of fixing to figure it out."

Girl talk

As for wedding talk, it's coming from all sides:

  • "We're building towards a wedding," said Appleby.
  • "Put it this way, a wedding will be planned," said executive producer Liz Tigelaar.
  • "That [engagement] ring changes hands a lot of times this year," said Smith.

Life Unexpected Review: "Rent Uncollected"

We have to say, we love this show. On "Rent Uncollected," we learn more about the families that each of the main characters have.

Marshmellow roasting

One of the biggest reasons why we love this series so much is because it is different. Especially in our times today, not all people grow up in the picture perfect way - big house, both parents, siblings, and pets.

These days everything is mixed up - kinda another reason why we love Modern Family.

Indeed, Robin Thomas and Susan Hogan guest star as Baze's parents.

Baze being Baze

When Nate's parents hear that they have a granddaughter, they insist on planning a dinner so they can meet her and Cate.

Cate grudgingly agrees to go and is surprised when both her mom and sister show up unexpectedly. Meanwhile, we get a further look into Lux's personal life with her boyfriend and a gang fight breaks out at her school.

This causes Cate to have Lux transferred to her and Baze's alma mater, Westmonte.

Shiri Appleby Interview: What's Ahead on Life Unexpected?

As Cate on Life Unexpected, Shiri Appleby says she's landed her dream role.

In a new interview with TV Guide, the actress speaks on her character's love triangle, as well as what viewers can expect on the rest of season one...

On Cate/Baze/Ryan: "She's got such an interesting triangle on her hands. Does she choose the guy that's calm and stable and sort of the voice of reason? And with the other one, the question is, is it possible to find your soul mate and do you really find him at winter formal having sex in the back of a minivan? I think the whole season she struggles."

On upcoming Life Unexpected spoilers, developments: "Lux has a lot of anger toward Cate that she led the life that she did, and Cate feels a lot of guilt and remorse about that, so they go through a whole roller coaster of emotions about that together."

On Cate's family: "Later in the season we meet my father, my mom's been married five times, my sister and I have this weird competitive thing, and as the season goes on you realize that Cate just totally shut down the day that she had to give Lux up for adoption."

Awfully Cute Couple

Life Unexpected Review: "Home Inspected"

The CW did not fail this week on gaining our love for their new show Life Unexpected. In "Home Inspected" we get a closer look at what Lux would have done if she was emancipated from her parents.

Although Lux does have a pretty cute boyfriend, her life sans parents really got us feeling depressed. No kid should have to feel the need to grow up so fast.

I am not sure if I am just an emotional person - or just a girl - but I caught myself tearing up a couple times throughout last nights episode.

Untrained Mother

One can only imagine what it would be like to be a foster kid that is bumped around from foster home to foster home and finally getting back with her birth parents. It's hard enough just being sixteen, let alone having to go through the emotions of why your parents left you.

And then having your mother publicly deny your existence on air? Brutal. Just brutal.

We are surprised to see that Lux doesn't have a darker side - maybe a future subplot will have her addicted to drugs or failing at school.

This does not mean that we do not like Lux's characteristics thus far. She seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders and definitely brings light into the other main characters lives.

Well, what do you guys think? Were you reaching for the box of Kleenex like us? Check out what we rated "Home Inspected" and read a few of our favorite Life Unexpected quotes after the jump!

As the following clip from "Home Inspected", though, all is not well in this show's world. Lux's foster care friends don't exactly approve of her plans to reunite with her birth parents:
